A good launch gives your book the best chance of finding its first readers. You do not need a huge budget, but you do need a plan. Here is a simple timeline you can adapt.

Three months before

  • Finalise your title, cover and book description.
  • Set up or refresh your author website with a page for the book.
  • Start or grow your mailing list with a clear reason to subscribe.
  • Decide how readers will buy: retailers, your own store or both.

Two months before

  • Order proof copies of the print edition and check them carefully.
  • Set up your retailer pages and pre-orders if available.
  • Prepare your launch materials: graphics, short excerpts and email drafts.
  • Contact reviewers, bloggers and readers who may want an advance copy.

One month before

  • Announce the launch date to your mailing list and social followers.
  • Share your cover reveal and a short excerpt.
  • Finalise your plan for launch week, including events or interviews.

Launch week

  • Email your list on launch day with clear buying links.
  • Post consistently, but focus on talking with readers, not only promoting.
  • Thank everyone who helps, and gently remind readers that honest reviews help others decide.

After launch

  • Keep sharing the book over the following weeks, not just on day one.
  • Write blog posts and updates that connect to your book’s themes.
  • Review what worked and plan your next steps.
